Basic Lessons for "DADGAD" Guitar Tuning / How to Press Chords on DADGAD
This time is teaching you how to tune up to DADGAD.

6th 5th 4th 3rd 2nd 1st

DADGAD Tuning D A D G A D


This is the difference between standard tuning and DADGAD tuning.
6th, 2nd and 1st strings are a whole tone lower than standard tuning.
DADGAD is seems to easy to tune up because it has many string that are same tone such as 5th string and 2nd string.
On the other hand, it is very distinguished if it has discord on its tune.

Let's check the way for tuning up to DADGAD below here!

  • At first, tune up 5th string to A with a tuning fork or tuner very exactly.

  • Secondly, tune up 4th string to the sound at 5th fret on 5th string as D.
  • You can do this with the harmonics at 5th fret on 5th string and 7th fret on 4th string.

  • Based on the sound of 4th string, tune up 6th string to D witch is an octave lower.
  • You can do this with the sound at 7th fret on 6th string and the open of 5th string.
  • Possible to do with the harmonics at 5th fret on 6th string and 12th fret on 4th string also.
  • Possible to do with the harmonics at 7th fret on 6th string and 12th fret on 5th string also.

  • Tune up 3rd string to G with the sound at 5th fret on 4th string.
  • You can do this with the harmonics at 5th fret on 4th string and 7th fret on 3rd string.

  • Based on the sound of 5th string, tune up 2nd string to A witch is an octave higher.
  • You can do this with the sound at 2nd fret on 3rd string and the open of 2nd string.
  • Possible to do with the harmonics at 5th fret on 5th string, 7th fret on 4th string and 12th fret on 2nd string also.

  • Based on the sound of 4th string, tune up 1st string to D witch is an octave higher.
  • You can do this with the sound at 5th fret on 2nd string and the open of 1st string.
  • Possible to do with the harmonics at 5th fret on 2nd string and 7th fret on 1st string also.
  • Possible to do with the harmonics at 5th fret on 4th string, 7th fret on 3rd string and 12th fret on 1st string also.





Actually, the way that is the best of all is to tune up with using tuner.
However, it is still better to tune up with own ears for knowing the relation of the tone between each strings.

Make good use of harmonics、and check the octave sound of each string persistently.
